Now, nepotism is a perfectly valid and time-honoured way to hire new people.

[Waldingers]
Are you paying her? Because I ran into some difficulties trying to set up an anonymous scholarship fund, and I'm wondering if just writing a cheque might be the easier, if creepier, option.

I did not look tragic. I've had a haircut scheduled every six weeks since I was eighteen.

[Waldingers]
Would you let me come along, or is it a girls-only lunch?

I lied about being a scholarship fund when I was compiling a dossier on Ernestine and questioning her school and family members about her. I never intended give her any money, but I did get a couple messages on my burner phone recently asking about the status of her application.

Excuse me. I haven't changed my actual facial features, I'm not that insecure. Well, except for sometimes

[Waldingers]
I'm after both. Should I ask outside of DMs, so you can share with the class?

It's technically money laundering to create a scholarship fund just for one person, but I suppose there's no reason we have to register this officially.

Unfortunately for everyone, neither of our parents would've settled for anything less than the most impressive genes.

[Waldingers]
Oh. Do we have names?

I'm sure the lawyer can make this work aboveboard. If I wasn't so fond of Ernestine, I'd be so tempted to set this up like one of those maniacal wills from a long-lost wealthy relative, who'll grant you millions if only you fulfil several bizarre and mysterious conditions.

Well. I haven't gone back to them in months, so I suppose that is empirical evidence that my replacement hairdresser has better aesthetic sense.

[Waldingers]
A month. And a Liminal agent? What is the FBI interested in that the Station isn't already investigating?

[...] Do you think we could convince her to take a trip abroad and get away from her family for a bit? (No offence to Lily, but you know.)

[...] You still enjoy it? Your schedule must be busy, what with juggling lab work and everything.

[Waldingers]
Yes, I suppose it's within their jurisdiction, with a person missing. Although I'm not sure what they expect to find that our explorers haven't already uncovered. [...] I wonder if they think Enodia is covering something up.

I could arrange interviews with Liminal scientists in other countries. And we could pay for her to bring along a friend, if that might ease any worries Lily might have. But Colchester can be rather limited, and I think it'll do Ernestine some good to meet new people and experience more of the world than Vermont.

Oh?

[Waldingers]
Refreshing, in a way, if our collective amnesia was due to a government conspiracy instead of more horrible rift business. Let me know if you need someone to distract a director.

It's a plan, then. I'll start assembling options for countries she can visit this summer. Someone should get the chance for a vacation.

Don't spread yourself thin. You can delegate your scheming, you know.

I wouldn't use them, but not to spite you. I'm [...] busy. Someone suggested it, but I truly don't think it would be smart or necessary, especially with everything going on.

Too true. Alright, enjoy your spy business. I'll go over the rift readings for that week again, but I'm only a phone call away.

The unfortunate keyword there is "Human." I don't want any fun experiences that carry with them Human Complications. Complications of the scientific sort, that I'm interested in.

You're talking to the wrong person if you want reassurance that college is useless. [...] You won't be as behind as you think, if that's your concern. Many people don't complete their PhDs until they're well into their 30s.

You think I can't handle some competition? Please. Gavin My entire life Go ahead and apply to Dartmouth. Disgrace my name with your academic achievements.

I'd feel more stressed out if I wasn't able to analyse data as soon as something happened within the vicinity of the Enodia rift. This is my life's work. Who else should I trust it to?

I've seen you in the lab. You show up early every day, you don't refuse to do difficult or monotonous tasks, and you often volunteer to do things outside of your job description. Would you call that "kinda lazy"?

If I had to leave the keys with someone, it would be you. I trust No one else understands my organisation system. But [...] I don't take well to idleness. Like honestly, how would you spend a holiday if you were forced to take one right now?

It's my curse to see the truth. [...] I don't actually think you'd disgrace it. First of all, you'd be entering a different speciality, and second, I have a considerable head start when it comes to professional reputation. But you could certainly make yourself the more popular Dr. Waldinger, if you were committed.

Right, we have incredibly different ideas of what constitutes a relaxing time. I'll stick with work and inventing increasingly complex ways to encrypt my research, thank you.
