We're separate from Liminals animals for the same reason that humans are separate from animals. Complex scenario building, exchange of abstract ideas and basic respect for people's allergen-free apartments.

Now, if your argument is that we're separate from non-Liminal humans in a way that makes us monstrous... that's a whole other matter.
